ABOUT BARRY TURLEY

With 30 years experience across journalism, PR and Public Affairs consultancy, and \'in house\' experience as Head of Communications for 2 multinationals, I\'m a safe pair of hands in terms of developing strategy, rolling out campaigns, maintaining media presence, crisis communication and political lobbying. I now hold the post of Stakeholder Manager on the LirlC electricity interconnector project between Scotland and Northern Ireland. I love working for Transmission Investment, dealing with long term political, regulatory and stakeholder issues, between London, Belfast and Glasgow. Between February 2022 and October 2023 I held the role of Senior Client Director for Lanyon Group, based in Belfast, specialising in public affairs, integrated communications strategic planning and implementation, and stakeholder management. Before joining Lanyon I was senior consultant with Hume Brophy, based between Belfast and Dublin. There I managed key accounts including SONI, The Breedon Group and Alupro, and worked on public affairs strategy for Eirgrid and Bird Inc. Before joining Hume Brophy, I spent a hugely enjoyable period with Mile High Labs, the US based market leader in the CBD sector, where I held the post of Director of Outreach for Europe. This role involved working closely with our US based communications and marketing team. Prior to joining Mile High I was Director of Communications at Dalradian Gold, the international Gold Mining company. At Dalradian I was responsible for long term strategic planning, day to day crisis communications, social media output and management of a range of advertising, public affairs, and PR agencies in Belfast, Dublin, London and Toronto. I originally made my name in the late 1990’s as Director of Communications of the SDLP, post Good Friday Agreement, working directly to Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume and deputy First Minister Seamus Mallon. I had the privilege of being intimately involved in the peace process, working in Belfast, Dublin, Washington and Brussels. From 2012 til 2018 I was Managing Director of multi award winning Turley PR and Public Affairs, representing clients across the business, healthcare, voluntary and community, digital and agri-food sectors.I cut my teeth as a reporter, producer and presenter for the BBC in Belfast and RTE in Dublin, where I reported on major events throughout the 90s.
