ABOUT BARRY STRACHAN

I began my oilfield career in 1996 with Camco Ltd, working in the Slickline and Completions department, where I developed a strong technical foundation in Slickline, Electric Wireline, Coil Tubing interventions, and associated pumping services. My early experience included the Forties CDP project and a wide range of well services operations, including Slickline Explosives and Memory PLT services. In 2002, I transitioned to the Oilphase sampling and analysis division of Schlumberger, joining the global flying squad and supporting major international projects in both operational and advisory roles. My next move took me into international leadership positions, beginning in India as Engineer in Charge, where I played a key role in developing and training the field team and growing the sampling business from $6M to $8M annually. I later transferred to Kuwait in a similar capacity, where I was additionally responsible for coordinating the construction of a new PVT laboratory and managing the procurement of all associated equipment.I then relocated to Saudi Arabia, where I supported Shell Saudi Arabia on a technically demanding HPHT and high‑H₂S sampling and analysis project. Following this, I became Project Coordinator for Russia and the Caspian (RCA), overseeing the planning and organization of multiple regional projects while also driving the development of sampling and analysis teams and upgrading equipment capabilities. My next career step brought me to Houma, USA, where I served as Field Service Manager (FSM) for RSA. In this role, I led the sampling and analysis department, supporting offshore Gulf of Mexico operations as well as all U.S. land activities. I was then selected to lead the software development and global rollout of a new multi‑platform planning and delivery tool designed to support all testing services across SLB worldwide. After completing that initiative, I returned to the UK and joined Expro as the UK and Western Europe Operations Manager, where I oversaw delivery of all field services across the region. In 2025, I moved into my current role as Downhole Fluids Product Line Manager, where I support the development of new technology and contribute to the execution of the global technology roadmap and service delivery strategy.
