About Barry M. Bloom

Barry M. Bloom has been an award-winning sports columnist and reporter for newspapers, magazines and the internet, having written about professional sports since 1976. He rejoined Forbes on Nov. 17, 2025, after nearly six years as a senior writer for Sportico. Previous to that he wrote a sports-business column for Forbes for two years, and covered baseball on and off the field for MLB.com from 2002-18. He also worked for Bloomberg News and the San Diego Union-Tribune. Bloom has been a voter for the National Baseball Hall of Fame since 1992 and in recent years has won 10 awards from the San Diego Press Club for best columns, news stories and features. His books include biographies of baseball’s Larry Bowa and Tony Gwynn and he’s currently working on a project about the 1984 era San Diego Padres. He has a beautiful and erudite wife, Alicia since 1986, two accomplished adult children, Raphael and Joanna, and three beloved grand children, Fox, Cortez and Cruz. His life and success would not be complete without all of them.
