About Barry Gillespie

Barry is currently ERM’s North America Regional Service Leader for Capital Project Development (CPD) where his focus is interfacing with North America’s Regional Commercial Director as well as ERM’s Global Capital Project Delivery Leader to develop and execute ERM’s CPD strategy for North America (United States and Canada). This role is aimed at developing traditional capital projects including diversified energy (oil and gas), power, mining, manufacturing as well as major projects helping clients decarbonize their businesses. Prior to this current regional role, Barry was working in ERM’s Gulf footprint helping build out major capital projects including many focused-on Renewables (solar), Hydrogen, Ammonia and Carbon Capture and Storage. He has also been instrumental in developing projects (nationally and internationally) in the linear pipeline space, liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal space, chemical facility space, and many more client sectors. Prior to joining ERM in 2014, Barry spent the first 15 years of his business career working in environmental consulting and focusing on ecological risk assessments, natural resource damage assessments and oil spill response projects. His past responsibilities have been broad but have tended to involve pipeline and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) facility permitting, aquatic and sediment ecotoxicology issues, wetlands design/construction and restoration projects, ecological risk assessments, natural resource damage assessments, oil spill response and project management. Some of his very early works focused on understanding the fate and effects of various surfactants in freshwater aquatic systems and this research led him to better understand wetland systems and the important “filter” role they can play within their environments. Ultimately this resulted in a focus on designing and constructing treatment wetland systems for various industrial effluents and facilities. This early work led the way for understanding the fate and effects of contaminants in aquatic ecosystems and helping clients evaluate those effects and determine proper mitigation techniques. Specialties: Capital Project Development, Impact Assessment and Planning, Strategy and Planning, Linear and Facility Oil and Gas Permitting, Constructed Wetlands, Natural Resource Damage Assessment, Wetland Mitigation and Restoration, Aqueous and Sediment Toxicology, Water Quality Assessments, Aquatic Ecotoxicology, Ecological Risk Assessment
