ABOUT BARRY FERGUSON
I work on capacity building, teaching, interdisciplinary research applied to natural resource management and biodiversity conservation. Social justice and issues of respecting customary rights and practice are central to my work. I have been engaged in outreach, networking activism and communications on these issues. I have extensive experience in organizing conferences, workshops, field courses and study visits. I have also written and edited academic publications, managed various social media and professional networking platforms and coordinated education for sustainable development, and cross cultural education projects. My professional experience is characterized by my work in and on Madagascar over the last 25 years, but I also have experience in protected areas management and sustainable tourism in European Protected Areas. My principal geographical area of research focus has been in the Natural Resource Dependent Communities of the Mandrare Valley (District of Amboasary-Sud, Anosy Region, Madagascar).
