ABOUT BARRY D. M.
With decades of experience in the construction equipment industry, I have earned a reputation for the ability to turn around struggling operations, expand businesses to become multisite and multistate operators, build and lead high-performance teams, and identify emerging opportunities to generate sustainable revenue and profit gains. Working for such organizations as Sam’s Equipment Rental, NationsRent, United Rentals, Crane and Tractor, and Franklin Equipment—recently acquired by United Rentals—I have attained a rare depth and breadth of industry exposure, connections, and knowledge. Based on my reputation as a change agent, I have repeatedly been recruited to turn operations around; halt long histories of losses; launch new sites across the country; and position teams and businesses with the structure, support, and sales strategies to succeed. Throughout my current role as Director of Business Development with Franklin Equipment, what was an initial focus to launch one new location in Indianapolis turned into an opportunity to open 10+ locations in 8 states in 5 years. Establishing the entire process—following the opening of the Indianapolis location—I documented all expansion processes and procedures, allowing for efficient and cost-effective replication in markets across the United States. From researching and evaluating sites to recruiting and onboarding teams, I provided the seasoned business and operations leadership to ‘stand-up’ locations from the ground up. In addition, I facilitated targeted management and staff training, built budgets and resource allocation plans, and drove market awareness through targeted advertising campaigns. Critical to the growth of the business—given we were recently acquired by United Rentals—my position certainly played a role in making us a highly attractive acquisition target. My StrengthsFinder themes—Strategic, Competition, Discipline, Adaptability, and Responsibility—also reflect my skills as a strategic business leader with the flexibility and drive to repeatedly deliver results.
