ABOUT BARNEY WARNER
In 2012, I made the decision to move into freelance work, which marked a pivotal shift in my career and led me to become actively involved in the construction industry through my family business.Construction is very much in my blood. My father, grandfather, brother, and uncles have all worked in the building industry, and I grew up immersed in it. My father, a highly respected brickwork contractor, built an impressive portfolio before focusing his expertise on the domestic market. His experience included prestigious projects such as Hamilton Palace (Framefield), Crystal Palace Football Club Stadium, and the London Guildhall.I joined my father’s business and spent the next ten years developing my skills across all aspects of brickwork and construction. This period laid a strong technical and practical foundation, shaped by traditional methods, high standards, and a strong work ethic. After a decade working alongside my father, I transitioned into the steel modular building sector, broadening my industry knowledge and gaining experience in modern construction techniques. After two years, I chose to return to bricks-and-mortar, this time in a more managerial capacity. My career progression continued when I joined VG Builders Ltd, initially as a working foreman. With a keen eye for detail and a strong drive for quality, I quickly advanced to a supervisory role, overseeing multiple trades across approximately 15 live construction sites while holding an qualification. My responsibilities included organising trades and labour, ensuring materials were delivered on time, liaising with homeowners, meeting programme targets, enforcing PPE and site safety standards, and conducting regular site audits.Although my background includes over 20 years in photographic advertising, this proved to be a natural progression rather than a departure. A long-standing interest in architecture, developed during my time at art college, combined with my family roots in construction, allowed for a smooth and successful transition into the building industry.Following my time as a Contracts Supervisor, I progressed into a Project Manager role with Archers Build Ltd. With additional certifications and an ongoing commitment to learning new techniques and best practices, I continue to develop professionally and contribute at a high level within the construction industry.
