ABOUT BARBARA MORTON

Barbara is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV and FCBV). Currently a contractor with EY, in 2021 Barbara retired as a Partner in the Strategy and Transactions practice of EY Canada, based in Calgary, Alberta. She also spent many years with EY in Halifax, Nova Scotia until her move to Calgary in 2012. Barbara also performs contracted project work for other clients. Barbara specializes in business valuation (for entities, business units, and intangible assets like licenses, brands and intellectual property) and the quantification of commercial losses for disputes and litigation. She regularly prepares and critiques business and financial models for a variety of purposes. She also serves as an investigator, arbitrator, and performs expert determinations for matters requiring financial or valuation expertise. Barbara has more than 30 years of experience with global professional services firms and has worked as a financial controller in various industries.She has served on the Board of the CBV Institute, which is Canada’s governing body for CBVs, and she has served on many task forces and committees of the CBV Institute, including her continuing role on the Professional Practice and Standards Committee, which is responsible for the development of practice standards and guidance for CBVs. She has also served as a Board Member for other non-profit organizations (e.g, Laing House, Child Find Nova Scotia). Barbara has presented regularly to corporate and legal audiences on topics related to business valuation and loss quantification. She also developed and led a mock trial program across Canada to help EY\'s CBVs and their litigator contacts gain experience with expert evidence. Barbara has been accepted as an expert witness in various courts and tribunals on matters related to financial accounting, financial forecasts, valuation, and loss quantification. She has also performed Expert Determinations and served as the Arbitrator for valuation disputes. Barbara has significant financial and valuation experience in energy related industries (e.g, Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Mining & Metals) and many other sectors. Barbara was also a founding member of EY\'s Canadian Cannabis sector focus group, which follows trends and developments in that transforming sector in order to assist clients with their evolving growth plans. Barbara\'s experience spans entities ranging from private family-owned businesses to large public companies and government sector clients.
