About Barbara Hemphill

One of my greatest joys in life is traveling adventures. I love to get in my car and simply drive, stopping along the way to appreciate a new restaurant, shop, or take a long walk in a new park. I majored in music in college with the intention of becoming a music teacher. I taught school for one year and decided there had to be another way to make a living. I did not like knowing what I would be doing every day of the week, nor did I like teaching something I loved to elementary school students who had no interest in learning.Music has served me well. It is a performance skill that translates naturally into speaking. I use music to calm my nerves and inspire my thinking.I have been featured in The New Yorker as a founder of the residential organizing industry, valued at 11.2 billion dollars, and in Top 100 Entrepreneurs & Innovators and 100 Women to Know in America. My world-class expertise is based on “Clutter is postponed decisions® learned from organizing closets, now applied to business by the company I founded, Productive Environment Institute. Since 1978, I have trained over 300 organizing and productivity consultants, and today my wisdom is delivered virtually by a team of Certified Productive Environment Specialists to help clients create a \"productive environment,\" an intentional setting in which everyone can accomplish their work and enjoy their lives. My license plate is HOPEFOOL. When people ask why, I reply, I\'m a fool for Jesus, and H.O.P.E stands for \"Helping Others Pursue Entrepreneurship,\" which I have been doing for over 40 years. As a “Vision Accelerator,” my passion is helping others see what God has created in them that they can\'t see for themselves. I began my career in the organizing industry in 1978 with a $7 ad in a New York City newspaper.
