K Balasubramanian (Bala) is India Subcontinent Sub-Cluster & Banking Head and India CEO & Banking Head, covering India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.Bala was previously the head of Corporate Bank for Citi in Asia South covering India sub-cluster (including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) and ASEAN countries. In this role Bala, was responsible for client coverage and business generation across nine countries and two non-presence countries. Bala is a seasoned banker who has worked in several markets and covered clients across all major industries and geographies in India. He has 29+ years of experience in Corporate and Investment Banking. Under Bala’s leadership, Citi India emerged as the number one Corporate Bank in India across all multinational banks and was consistently among the top three Investment Banks.Bala’s strong knowledge of clients, industry insights, regulatory acumen and the deep relationships he built over several years have helped Citi win several marquee mandates. He has assisted clients in raising capital of over US$ 350 billion across public (bonds/equity) and private (bank loans/private equity) markets. He has also led acquisition mandates of more than US$150 bn. Several of these marquee deals have received accolades from international agencies.Bala joined Citi in India in 1996 and has since served in multiple leadership roles. He is a Senior Credit Officer with Citi and a Material Risk Taker. He is a member of Citi’s Global Management Committee for Corporate Bank, as well as an executive member of the Citi Asia South Board and Management Committee. Bala was also a member of the Citi India Management Committee, ALCO committee, Risk Management Council, CSR Committee and chaired the Inclusive Finance (ESG) Committee for Citi India. He worked with HDFC Bank, running their Corporate Bank and Government business, briefly between 2016 and 2017.Bala graduated with distinction in Commerce from St Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) and Cost & Management Accountant (ICMA).
