As a Mechanical Design Engineer at USNR, my key responsibilities include:•Design and develop custom lumber handling machinery for sawmill and planer mill operations.•Engineer complex mechanisms driven by cams, servos, and pneumatic systems to support precision motion control and automation.•Perform structural analysis and strength validation using hand calculations and FEA simulations.•Create detailed engineering drawings from solid models for various fabrication techniques (CNC machining, welding, and sheet metal forming).•Conduct comprehensive design reviews to ensure intended functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.•Maintain equipment history and standard documentation using Microsoft Word and Excel.•Generate equipment drive lists in Excel, which are used by designers to provide drive details of a project, for example, sprocket ratios and motor and reducer sizes.•Perform metric conversions for international equipment, including material sizing and component selection.•Communicate with clients and internal teams to support new equipment integration and custom modifications.•Collaborate cross-functionally with Controls, Sales, and Manufacturing teams throughout the project lifecycle.•Travel to customer sites for equipment installation, commissioning, and on-site measurements.
