About Bailey Sherman

Hello, there! I can’t wait to meet and get to know you. Until I have the opportunity to meet you personally, I thought you might like to know my story. I was born and raised here in Birmingham, Alabama. I graduated from Briarwood Christian School. After graduation, I moved just down the road to attend Samford University. My time at Samford began in the nursing school. After two years there, I realized I was not called to a life of syringes and gauze. I spent the following summer wrestling with God as I tried to understand what I was called to pursue. I heard the Lord telling me to switch my time to English department, and I am so glad that He did because it led to my fiancé, Alex Sherman. This switch also sent me to my favorite place in the world. In the Spring of 2015, I had the privilege of living and studying in London, England. It was during my time in there the Lord opened the door for me to do what I really love: youth ministry. Upon my return home I began working in a local church youth ministry. In this role I was responsible for event organizing, trip planning, student contact, teaching in a large group setting, and leading a seventh to ninth grade girls small group. The Lord blessed me with the two most challenging and wonderful years of my life working with junior and high school students. As my time at the church is coming to an end, I am entering a season of exciting beginnings. In May I will graduate with a degree in English, in June I will be marry my best friend, and in July I will join Big Time ministries as a girls minister! I am overwhelmed and honored God is allowing me to spend time loving on and walking with your girls.

Experience

  1. Youth Intern

    Mountain Brook Community Church

    May 2015 — Present

The past two years I have served on staff as a youth intern at Mountain Brook Community Church. In this role I was responsible for event organizing, trip planning, student contact, teaching in a large group setting, and leading a seventh to ninth grade girls small group. During the Summers I worked forty hours a week alongside three team members. These summer hours were focused around relationship building experiences with our students. On top of planning weekly events around town, this past summer I had the opportunity to plan our yearly camping trip. I also traveled with our senior high students to Guatemala for a weeklong missions trip. Summer is a highly relational time with students but I was also responsible for teaching on Sunday mornings and planning weekly events. During the school semester I worked twenty hours a week alongside two team members. My responsibilities in the school semester included teaching on Sunday, leading a small group each Wednesday, planning retreats, attending sporting events, meeting individually with students and contacting parents. I believe that God has gifted me with the ability to create inviting spaces and connect with young women through hospitality and consistency. This opens the door for vulnerable relationships to form. It is in this place that I am able to walk beside students through their lives and, more importantly, their walks with the Lord. I am confident in my abilities to communicate, engage, and relate with young women.
