Currently redeveloping and teaching LEED Lab and WELL Practicum courses, as well as Sustainable Solutions for the Built Environment course. These courses integrate real-world sustainability practices with academic learning, using the UF campus and community as living laboratories. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I lead the UF in Greece Study Abroad Program, which immerses students in international sustainability practices and cultural exploration. I also direct the Summer High School Sustainability Exploration Program, introducing younger students to sustainability concepts and inspiring future environmental leaders.

ABOUT BAHAR ARMAGHANI
Bahar Armaghani is a recognized leader in sustainable building, with deep expertise in LEED, WELL, and global green building initiatives. She is an Instructional Associate Professor at the University of Florida (UF) and served for seven years as Director of the Sustainability and the Built Environment (SBE) Program. She is also the founding Director of UF’s Green Building Learning Collaborative (GBLC), an industry-academic advisory board established over 11 years ago.Her passion for sustainability began over 25 years ago and has shaped a career dedicated to bridging education, industry, and community impact. With a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from UF, Bahar has advanced sustainability through curriculum, policy, and practice.In 2014, she launched UF’s LEED Lab—one of the first globally—where students use campus buildings as living labs. Over 290 students have participated, with more than half earning LEED GA or AP credentials. In 2021, she established the first WELL Practicum in collaboration with the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). Her work has earned recognitions:• USGBC’s Kate Hurst Leadership Award (2023)• IWBI Changemaker of the Year (2022)• IWBI Educator of the Year (2024)Bahar partners with HBCUs, including Morehouse School of Medicine, to co-develop sustainability curricula and serves on their advisory board. She has expanded LEED Lab internationally through Collaborative Online Learning, partnering with universities in Switzerland, Brazil, and Iraq (Kurdistan). With four consecutive years of Siemens Empowerment Grants, she has advanced LEED Lab, WELL Practicum, the Sustainability in Greece study abroad program, and the HBCU initiative. She brought Siemens to the college to invest in UF’s Siemens Lab for Technology and Innovation—a new hands-on teaching and research facility.As founder of UF’s Green Building Program, Bahar led the LEED certification of 135+ buildings—13 Platinum—saving UF over $6 million. She also managed $350 million in major capital projects as Assistant Director of UF’s Planning, Design & Construction Division.A LEED Fellow and longtime LEED Faculty, Bahar served on the USGBC Market Leadership Advisory Board, LEED for Cities & Communities Committee, and other national committees. She has helped advance green building across the Middle East and Georgia (country).A committed community leader, she founded Gainesville’s Sister City Program with Duhok, Kurdistan. Her work continues to shape the next generation of sustainability leaders and drive impact globally.
