ABOUT BABAK MIRZAPOUR

Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to projects focused on the design, fabrication, and characterization of flat optics and diffractive optical elements.Babak M••••••••@umass.eduCORE COMPETENCIESLaboratory skills1. UMass photonics and advanced optical labs8+ years of experience in optical characterization of photonic devices, specializing in designing, aligning, and automating free-space measurement setups using lasers, sensors, cameras, and optical instruments to improve accuracy and efficiency.2. Nanofabrication cleanrooms, 8+ years of nanofabrication experience across multiple world-class facilities, including CNS Harvard, MIT.nano, CRF at UMass Lowell, YINQE at Yale, and Marcus and Conte Cleanrooms at UMass Amherst. Skilled in lithography, etching, deposition, and process optimization for advanced photonic and nanodevice fabrication.Experienced skills:Expertise in design, fabrication, and characterization of metasurfaces, DOEs, and semiconductor VCSEL arrays. Strong experimental and theoretical optics background. Proficient in Zemax, LightTrans, COMSOL, HFSS, Altium, and MATLAB, with experience in open-source FDTD, grating averaging, and conventional optical design methods.ACCOMPLISHMENTSDesign the systematic method of design for bilayer metasurface to realize general lossless orthogonal polarization and phase transformations. Design and characterized a new free-space coupled disk resonators which does have a great properties and applications. Developed a chip-scale addressable VCSEL array using semiconductors and integrated it with a metasurface to create Meta-LiDAR — a compact, low-power, wide-FOV LiDAR system with higher resolution and lower manufacturing cost.Introducing the grating averaging technique for designing efficient and robust metasurfaces that optimizes the design curves instead of individual metasurface devices and thus does not suffer from the size limitations of conventional optimization techniques. and much more.Contact me at b••••••••@umass.edu for any Photonics engineering or semiconductor laser positions.
