1. Professor of Pan-african Literature and Culture

   Kent State University

   Aug 2006 — Present

   I was hired as an Assistant Professor at Kent State University in 2006 and became a Full Professor in 2018. I teach a wide range of black literature (including African, African American, and Caribbean ones) and the intersections between such literature and their original and new cultures. Recently, I have developed an interest in black Canadian literature and strong leanings on black Francophone literature.Moreover, as a trained Americanist, I study African and Caribbean literatures and cultures in connections with those of the United States. In the same vein, I teach black films and music whenever I can add them to my course content.Furthermore, over the past few years, I have strongly immersed myself into the study of gender and sexuality in Senegal and in the black diaspora. I find this as part of the most cutting-edge and exciting research in the humanities, though it is quite undervalued and neglected in large structures (especially in those within the African continent).
