About Brendan Sheehan

I’m Brendan Sheehan, a senior at Monmouth University majoring in Political Science with minors in Leadership Communication & Public Policy. Over the last three years, I’ve stepped into leadership roles spanning student government, international diplomacy simulations, journalism, debate and public speaking.Having just been elected President of the Student Government Association for the 2025-26 year, I look forward to expanding on my progress in the SGA, including my work establishing a student discount program with local businesses and engaging in high-level discussions with student and University leaders.Monmouth’s Model United Nations team has taken me to conferences in cities like Washington, DC and Zurich, Switzerland, as well as esteemed schools like Harvard University and Oxford University. With the Model UN team, I have received multiple awards for my work in policy analysis, international diplomacy and negotiation.I’m an award-winning member of Monmouth’s Debate Team, ranked in the Top 25 college debate teams nationally by CEDA. Here, I’ve competed at regional tournaments at Suffolk Law School and the University of Houston as well as two national championships at Wake Forest University and California State University - Fullerton. In January 2025, I joined six Debate Team colleagues in a mission trip to Kolkata, India to teach policy debate at the all-girls Loreta Rainbow School. After serving as a staff writer my sophomore year, I was appointed to the Editorial Board for “The Outlook”, Monmouth’s student newspaper. Aside from reporting on campus issues, as well as local, state and national news, I led investigative reporting into school budgets and interviewed campus leaders. For the last two years, “The Outlook” has been ranked in the Top 10 student newspapers in America at schools with less than students by the Associated Collegiate Press. After my term on the Board ended, I received the \"Newcomer of the Year Award\".My professional journey includes an internship with U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, currently the Ranking Member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, working with the U.S. Embassy in Singapore & U.S. Consulate in South Africa through the U.S. State Department’s Diplomacy Lab and fast-paced jobs in food service for five years.I’m looking to utilize what I’ve learned in these roles in areas of communication, strategic communication, political communication, public policy, international relations and other areas of government or the private sector. Let’s connect to explore opportunities for collaboration and work!
