About B. Jan Middendorf
B. Jan Middendorf serves as a Program Director for the Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE) in the Office of the Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF). Prior to this role, Dr. Middendorf provided executive-level coordination, management, programmatic and operational leadership for a $75M portfolio focused on collaborative research on sustainable intensification at Kansas State University (KSU). This portfolio included projects in Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Guatemala, and Honduras; four consortia; and human and institutional capacity building initiatives in Cambodia, West Africa, and Haiti. Dr. Middendorf conducted research and led impact assessment and monitoring and evaluation efforts at KSU. She was also responsible for establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with other U.S. and international institutions, industry, and other international partners. As part of these efforts, she developed and implemented strategic planning and capacity building initiatives to enhance collaborative research and support organizational change. Dr. Middendorf also managed a $15.5M portfolio focused on evaluation for the NSF, and served as director of an evaluation center at KSU for over a decade. Dr. Middendorf earned her B.S. in business administration at the University of Rhode Island, her M.A. in international affairs at Ohio University and her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction and evaluation practice at Kansas State University. She has over 35 years of experience in project development, management, implementation and evaluation of multi-institutional, interdisciplinary programs and projects in national and international settings.
