About B. Jacob Whitehead
Digital Historian of the Manila galleons (nao de China/nao de Acapulco), the Spanish trans-Pacific trade route that lasted from 1565 to 1815. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, I spatially depict the trans-Pacific voyages to offer insights into technological and navigational shifts over the centuries, life on the vessels, as well as the sheer amounts of cargo carried annually. My research provides deep spatial insights into a voyage unparalleled by length that required a steep labor and financial cost.laying the foundations of our globalized world.I have experience as a teaching assistant and adjunct instructor lecturing undergraduate courses. The courses I have taught cover topics related to Latin America, colonial North America, and the early United States.
