ABOUT AZIZ SUNDERJI

At I analyze the US housing market using data visualization. If you\'re interested in figuring out whether it makes more sense to buy or rent, where mortgage rates are going, or how demographics are leading to a generational battle for housing, Home Economics is for you. I invented this job and I can\'t think of a more fun and interesting way to spend my days. I didn\'t take a straight path here, though. I started my career at Barclays Investment Bank in London in 2006. After Barclays acquired Lehman Brothers during the financial crisis, I moved to New York to head up the bank\'s emerging markets strategy initiative, and eventually rose to become a Director in the research department. As a Strategist, I led a team that analyzed economic and financial market developments, and provided strategic advice to large institutional investors about their bond portfolios. My work took me all over the world, and was always interesting. And at Barclays I discovered my true passion: data visualization. In 2022 I made a complete career change. I moved to the Wall Street Journal, where I re-trained as a graphics reporter. I published stories about the strength of the US dollar, the relationship between government bonds and stock markets, and Federal Reserve policy—all using data visualization. Home Economics is the culmination of what I know and enjoy—economics, markets, and data analysis/visualization—applied to an industry where decision-makers need concise, accurate information and views.
