ABOUT AZAR KAZIMIR

Why should a hotel website look like a hotel website or a bottle of whisky look a like a bottle of whisky? The right answer is of course they shouldn’t, yet they almost always do. Things look like other things of the same category. Why? This simple little question lies at the heart of my work and if we ask it, we become free to create things that are different.My work is all hand-drawn; the lines, colours, textures are all analogue. I aim to make things that people want to touch, look at closely and keep hold of. There’s always an idea there, and often a story too. Something in there speaks to the child in all of us. My work is warm, emotional, humorous and heartfelt. It’s characterised by a strong use of colour and a balance between detail and emptiness-I studied Sculpture at Chelsea college of Art. In 2001 I turned down the offer of a place at the Royal College of Art to go for an internship in a design agency. Commercial creativity felt so much more exciting and relevant than contemporary art did. I worked in design and ad agencies London, Barcelona and Berlin and that taught me not to have a consistent visual style but to always adapt to the particular project in hand. In 2008 I met the Michelbergers and together we opened the hotel in 2009. In my role as creative director, I started a studio within the hotel, primarily working on hotel projects rather than external clients. That was all a big success, but after 10 years, it was time for some work a little differently; I moved out to a remote location in rural Spain where I can continue to work with the Michelberger as well as any other interesting things that come along.If you have an interesting project, I\'d be delighted to hear from you.
