ABOUT AYA MALAS

I am involved in the development and civil society sector, through my membership in several NGOs as well as programmes and projects I participated in, such as representing Syria in the United Nations, New York in addition to an exchange programme in leadership and civic responsibility. On the employment level I have worked with a foundation specialised in Corporate Social Responsibly (CSR) programmes, as well as working as a freelancer and part-time in consultancy and research. In 2009 I decided to acquire the knowledge and the academic tools for development so I joined a Masters programme in Development Administration & Planning, UCL, London, fully funded by Chevening. BA Management and MSc in Development were both major support for my experience in the development sector in both private sector and civil society. I am an active member of two local NGOs. Since September 2006, I have been involved with the Personal Support Committee of BASMA, a non-profit organization that provides care and entertainment for Children with Cancer from disadvantaged backgrounds. I actively seek to provide entertainment for the patients by supplying public hospitals with toys and organizing children’s parties on a regular basis through establishing regular contacts between the hospitals and various acting troupes that are funded by our organization. Also since September 2006 I have been very actively involved in the Syrian Young Entrepreneurs Association (SYEA). Particularly in the Programme and Networking Committees. In this capacity, I was appointed Project Manager for a significant training session involving a leading Syrian entrepreneur. Moreover, I was directly involved in the preparation, organization and enactment of the highly acclaimed and very successful 2005 and 2006 Job Fairs. In February 2006, I co-founded a Public Relations & Event Management Company. Which has been involved in over a dozen events, conferences, and business launchings since its foundation. Specialties: Leadership & Civic Responsibility Program: Program funded by the state government of USA, visited 7 cities in 5 different states around the US meeting politicians, NGOs & universities. United Nations Global Youth Leadership Summit Three days by UN, at the headquarters in New York /USA, Representing Syria, I got appointed as a youth spokesperson for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
