ABOUT ALEXANDER HATCH SPENCER

I am an Engineer. I apply engineering principles of systems and algorithmic thinking to whatever work on—from human dynamics to software investing. My friends say I’m equal parts relentless and curious. I try to stay humble-allergic to elitism and revel in having friends from many cultures, stages, and walks of life. I believe that *everyone* has something to teach me. Principles- don\'t let anyone put limitations on what you can achieve - don\'t settle for the opportunities that come to you - Figureitoutiveness -\"make it great\"- leave it better than you found it Personal: I am a 5x marathoner. I love venturing into the outdoors with friends and family and sports such as basketball, tennis, and backcountry & alpine skiing. Career Experiences: Alex’s career experiences include building software that millions use daily, software engineering, early-stage software entrepreneurship, founding a social venture in Mozambique that has impacted tens of thousands of women for the last 10 years, venture capital investing, and managing machine learning, engineering, product management, and design teams. Bio: Alex started his career living in Mozambique, Africa, where he co-founded the Regenesis Foundation. Since its founding in 2010, the foundation has helped tens of thousands of Mozambican women obtain education and vocational training. Alex attended Harvard’s MBA program. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Brigham Young University, where he graduated Tau Beta Pi and obtained the degree in just over 3 years, while founding and selling a Machine Learning software product. Alex is a Software Engineer and Product Leader who has built software that millions use daily. He was an early Software Engineer on the Amazon Echo & Alexa platform. He worked on Alexa’s “brain” — the AI/ML software that powers 100M+ Alexa-enabled devices. At Amazon he founded a team that has over employees today. He has built APIs and artificial intelligence web services with millions of transactions per second.
