ABOUT AVISHAI MEYER
I’m a general and bariatric surgeon based in Portland, Oregon, with a specialty in complex robotic procedures — over 1,100 of them and counting.I got into robotic surgery early, back in 2012, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve worked across general, bariatric, and colorectal cases, and I’ve spent the last decade helping other surgeons get confident with the robot as a proctor for Intuitive (since 2014). Teaching is a big part of who I am — whether it’s residents, fellows, or seasoned attendings learning a new skill set.Now, I’m looking toward what’s next.I’m deeply interested in how AI and digital tools can improve what we do in the OR — from real-time insights and training support to smarter decision-making. I’m also curious about telementoring, international training, and remote surgery — and how we can connect platforms as new players enter the robotic space.I don’t come from the AI side, but I know the clinical trenches and how surgeons think.
