ABOUT AVI FREEMAN

I head up the electronics, physics and mechanical engineering team here at Beck Greener. The bulk of my work is the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications. My technical specialisms are physics, electronics, communications, and electronic and mechanical devices in both the light and heavy engineering fields. I spend a reasonable proportion of my time dealing with post-grant procedures at the EPO such as oppositions and Appeals.Computer-implemented inventions are an area I am active in and I write and publish in this field.I travel to the US, Asia and the Middle East where, as well as visiting clients and contacts, I regularly speak and present on matters of European law. These areas range from general developments such as the European unitary patent, to the more specific, such as the European and UK approach to the protection of computer implemented inventions.I also advise on unregistered design protection, and file and prosecute applications for registered designs directly at OHIM and before the UKIPO.The clients I act for include large multinationals such as Masco Corporation, Seagate Technology and Dai Nippon Printing, and also a number of large University Tech Transfer organisations. These include, for example, Ramot at TAU. I have had some significant and notable successes with complex hi-tech patent prosecution for some of my University tech transfer clients.On behalf of my local clients, I also manage a large caseload before overseas patent offices, particularly the USPTO, where he prosecutes applications on behalf of direct clients with the assistance of local counsel.I take great satisfaction in helping start-ups and young companies, specifically to help them create IP infrastructure to support their growth.
