About Avery Miles
With over 10 years of media production experience, I have undertaken a variety of projects covering a range of topics. I got my start in film and video working behind the scenes on big blockbusters and documentaries. After my time at the Maysles Documentary Center, I was motivated to create my own documentary projects and in 2016, I traveled to Chiang Mei, Thailand to produce a short video doc about the state of elephant welfare. From there, I migrated to public radio where I covered the Alex Jones trial and produced pieces for KUT radio, including one that looked at the digital divide in Austin, Texas. For Inc. and Fast Company, I\'ve focused on producing podcast shows about creativity, innovation and business leadership. I am most proud of the work I\'ve done on transformative fandom in the creator economy for the show, Creative Control, for which my team earned an Ambie nomination. In the fall of 2022, I also enjoyed reporting on the rise of plant-based alternatives in Germany, a country once primarily known for its meat production and consumption.I thrive in highly collaborative environments where thinking outside the box is not only welcome but encouraged. Exploration of a wide range of topics is equally important to me. Throughout my reporting experience, I\'ve covered everything from mental health and video game streamers to wetlands conservation and entrepreneurship. I\'m most motivated when building out a unique story idea along with a team where all members are treated equally.
