About Ava Richard
I am a Master’s student studying Conservation Technology at Florida Institute of Technology, with an expected graduation in August 2026. I am a graduate researcher in the biological sciences department working under Dr. Michelle Cherne. The project is exploring human gastric ECM directed differentiation of dendritic cells to increase motility for novel immunotherapies. My career goal is to secure a full-time, research position in biology, conservation, and wildlife sciences following graduation. I bring an interdisciplinary skill set developed through experience in rigorous laboratory environments, ecological modeling and statistics, species monitoring, biological education and outreach, and animal husbandry. Some specific interests of mine include genetics, herpetology, and marine biology. Overall, I am particularly motivated by projects that integrate scientific research in the field and lab to address real-world conservation challenges.

This project focuses on the use of human gastric extrecellularmatrix (hgECM) in the directed function of monocytes derived dendritic cells (MoDCs). After optimization of hgECM concentration, our goal is to increase MoDC efficiency towards it’s target tissue. Increased motility is expected to improve dendritic cell therapy in applications such as cancer treatment.
