About Austin Walker

Currently Senior Advisor for Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) where I manage our volunteer leadership program and lead advocacy training development for a wide range of audiences. During my time with SCAN I have also supported the execution of state, federal, and electoral grassroots campaigns, served as a committee leader on a statewide early education coalition, and lobbied state and federal lawmakers to advance policies that improve the lives of kids. I previously served in the offices of former Governor Northam and State Senator Jennifer McClellan where I helped drive progress on a variety of issues, most prominently criminal justice reform.As a master\'s level social worker, my approach to advocacy balances a savviness for strategy and analytics with exceptional interpersonal skills. I understand that it\'s important to be knowledgeable about political processes and also that creating change is fundamentally about people and power. Throughout my career I have demonstrated expertise around forming authentic connections with folks on the frontlines of change, building effective partnerships, and facilitating change in individuals, communities, and systems.
