About Austin Small
My specialty is driving operational product initiatives and executing complex capital projects to boost revenue growth and market position for Baker Hughes - an energy technology services company. As a product and project delivery champion with 11+ years of experience in the oil, gas, and energy sectors, I am adept at motivating cross-functional regional teams to standardize customer feedback, validate data, and ensure consistency across product commodity verticals.Known as the \"voice\" of both products and customers, I excel at technology roadmap planning to evolve new systems from operational phases to end-user customer experience.I enjoy leading a wide variety of teams and am frequently requested as the single Point of Contact (POC) over product line management due to boosting revenue >100% per person for customers across North America, Trinidad, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. My ability to steer projects through the 4-stage project lifecycle – initiation, planning, execution, and closure – has also allowed me to guide early client engagement for global projects that have led to resilient client relationships and millions in contracts. In my current role as an Applications Engineer, I develop and optimize hybrid and PDC drill bit technology in Central and Rockies regions – Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and North Dakota.I am also in charge of building a new product pipeline to increase drilling performance, grow market share, optimize runs / rig, and raise margins by upgrading new / existing products. Some of my additional career impacts include: Delivering $1MM direct /$80MM pull-through revenue by stewarding flawless Western Hemisphere projects. Championing a new service across two regions by successfully upselling to two customers, which added an additional ~50% in pull-through tool revenue and 25% in direct revenue. Winning a 6-project contract for a well drilling and completion campaign benefiting all product lines by modeling and delivering the highest level of customer service to the Caribbean region. Adding $9MM in unplanned revenue and winning 8 new contracts by delivering the top service level in a new region. Increasing market share and delivering an additional 20-30% of reservoir contact for the operator compared to previous best wells by upselling higher technology and replacing a competitor. Managing a 2 to 5-person teams and up to 25 pieces of field inventory equipment – including radioactive resources – while overseeing cost controls / billing for small capital projects ranging from $50K to $750K.
