About Austin Schully
A Bit About Me Growing up in a small town in Texas, life was simple. I spent a lot of time outside and lived a good life. My parents worked hard to make sure I didn’t have to grow up wondering what tomorrow would be like, and I’ll be forever grateful for that. I moved to college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, my second home. I studied civil engineering and 4 years (+1 victory lap) later, graduated with my BS in Civil Engineering. It wasn\'t one bit easy, but man I was proud of that degree. Soon after college I married my high school sweetheart. I had a crush on her from the day we sat next to each other in 7th grade health class, and 8 years later we were standing on the altar sharing our wedding vows. We set out on a mission after that- We wanted to live a life that we were proud of. We didn’t want to settle for what everyone else said was normal. We saw too many people around us live based on their current reality and never raised the expectation for what they could accomplish. There was always something inside us that said we wouldn’t let that happen to us. I began my work in land development in Charlotte, NC as a design engineer, learning the ropes of residential and commercial design and permitting. I learned how to help developers go from a piece of land and an idea to building a new piece of a growing community. It has been exciting to experience the challenges of the development industry and the ups and downs that come with it, and I look forward to the continued contribution to the community. Outside of work I have always had a great interest in entrepreneurship and finance. I have a passion for learning and developing new skills, and my hobby of woodworking led to my first business. I spent years growing my skills and arsenal of machinery to build fine furniture. That small business opened many doors for me, and it helped me understand the value of ownership, mentorship, and working hard for what you want. Since then, I have sought out other opportunities to grow in my skillset and mindset and continue to work toward building more freedom for my family. Writing this up in a concise(ish) way was more of a challenge than I thought, but I tried to hit the things that mean the most to me. I thought about sharing more about my values, but hopefully my story speaks for itself in that aspect! One last thing- I’m a nerd for a good book and always looking for recommendations. Please reach out if you want to recommend a book, talk more about engineering, or maybe just share a good joke. I’m always up for a conversation.
