ABOUT AUGUSTINE WONG
Augustine is a problem-solver and leader in his final year of undergraduate Architectural Studies (Specialist Design Stream) at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, University of Toronto. In a profession that combines both creative and practical problem solving skills, his main motivation to study architecture rose from a desire to manage Hong Kong\'s problematic urban development. Since then, his interest in architecture has expanded to include how history and local context can be applied to create meaningful designs. In 2022, he assisted research on Chinese architecture, Hong Kong cinema and photography, and Francophone architectural projects such as Expo67; before conducting research on European American canons in 2023. As a Laidlaw Scholar of 2023, his research topic regarded phenomena where corporations possess more power than nation state apparatuses, identifying urban research patterns of company towns and finding antitrust solutions to break up corporate dependence. His latest research thesis,\'Upon a Silicon Shield\', concerns the ecological impacts of Taiwan\'s semiconductor industry, an asset vital to economic and military defense. When he\'s not thinking about architecture, in his free time he pursues various interests, from photography to journalism, hiking, writing and listening to music.
