After retiring two years ago, a friend who knew about my passion for travel and knack for organising bespoke holidays suggested I might be a great fit for a role as a Tour Manager with Great Rail Journeys. Although I missed the first year\'s intake, I was contacted again in late 2024 to see if I was still interested — and I was!Following the interview process, I was delighted to be offered a position as a part-time Tour Manager. This flexible role allows me to choose a few trips each year, starting with tours in the UK and Europe, with the potential to progress to worldwide adventures as I gain experience.It’s a complete departure from my previous career, and I’ll admit — I’m both excited and a little nervous about the challenge ahead. But what an adventure it promises to be! One week I could be soaking in the views along the Amalfi Coast, the next, ascending the Matterhorn. Future trips could take me to Japan, Peru, Canada, South Africa, India, New Zealand, and beyond.As a Tour Manager, I’ll be responsible for leading and managing every aspect of the journey — from coordinating logistics to supporting guests and ensuring the entire experience runs smoothly. I’ll typically be working with groups of 25–35 travellers, journeying by rail, air, and coach, helping them enjoy every moment of their holiday.
