Teaching Fellow
Jul 2024 — Present · Kolkata, IN
I’m a Teach For India Fellow working in a municipal school in Kolkata, where I design and run classroom and after-school learning models for Grade 4 students in a resource-constrained context. My work spans foundational literacy and numeracy, English language development, and student agency-building, with a strong emphasis on curiosity, skepticism, and learning how to think—not just what to learn. I experiment with peer-teaching, self-study blocks, and inquiry-driven discussions to help students progressively self-actualize their learning.Beyond the core school day, I lead Project Living Classrooms, an extended-hours learning program that integrates remedial academics, social-emotional learning, sustainability, and philosophy—designed as a safe, structured space during vulnerable after-school hours.I also lead the project Cyberpunks, a digital literacy program aimed at equipping my students to navigate the modern cyber landscape safely and securely. I also design low-cost, scalable learning tools and frameworks (question banks, worksheets, peer-learning systems) aligned to government school realities, and actively collaborate with KMC teachers, volunteers, and families to improve student retention, confidence, and engagement. My long-term focus is on solving problems of scale in educational equity by building systems that help students become independent, fearless learners—especially in contexts where time, resources, and support are limited.(Occasionally, I also use storytelling, games, and philosophy to make classrooms slightly more dangerous—in a good way.)
