ABOUT ASTRID THEWS

I am systemic organisational development consultant, facilitator and art manager involved in projects aiming for social, institutional and personal change. As I speak German, English, Arabic and French, I consult, facilitate and co-create in different contexts around the globe, particularly in the MENA region and Germany. In 2011, I co-founded Mahahat for contemporary art, a Cairo-based social enterprise for art in public space and community art that I co-conceived, co-developed and co-programmed until the end of 2015. Remaining partner in Mahatat for several years, I returned to Germany in early 2016 and call my home Bochum and the Ruhrgebiet now. Since my return, I have broadened the scope of my cultural management and facilitation endeavors and advise various cultural and social organizations and collaborate in projects in Egypt, Germany, Tunisia, Armenia, Pakistan, and Belgium. I am a founding member of the association TraumWerkStadt e.V. that a group of alumni, founders and friends of the program RuhrstadtTRÄUMER co-founded in 2017 and was board member between April 2017 and June 2020. I hold a B.A. degree in Culture and Society of Africa from Bayreuth University (Germany, 2008) and a M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Uppsala University (Sweden, 2011) as well as the European Master Certificate in Social Dynamics and Development from Uppsala University and Université Paris X (France, 2011). In early 2017 I completed my Theodor-Heuss-Kolleg education as facilitator in non-formal education. Between 2017 and 2019 I participated in a DGSF-certified training program in Systemic Organizational Development.
