About Andrew Speyer
I serve as Director of Information Technology Services at Choate Rosemary Hall, where I have been a member of the ITS team since 2003. Over the course of my tenure, I have held a range of leadership roles—including Help Desk Manager, Operations Manager, Associate Director, and Acting Director—before being appointed Director in 2007.In this role, I lead the strategic direction, operations, and evolution of technology services in support of a dynamic independent school environment. My work focuses on aligning technology with institutional priorities, strengthening security and infrastructure, and building systems that support teaching, learning, and administrative excellence.I am actively engaged in the broader independent school technology community. I have served on the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools Commission on Technology and chaired the Eight Schools Association Directors of Information Technology group. I represent Choate at NERCOMP (part of EDUCAUSE) and have presented at the Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools.Prior to joining Choate, I held leadership roles at Suffield Academy (Associate Director of Technology and Chair of Computer Science), Virginia Episcopal School (Director of Technology), and Horace Mann-Barnard School (faculty). I have also served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Education, Health, and Computing at the University of Hartford.Beyond my professional work, I have remained actively involved in athletics and officiating, serving on the Executive Boards of the Connecticut Lacrosse Officials Association, the Connecticut Central Football Board of Officials, and the Connecticut Field Hockey Association Officials Board.I began my career as a computer science teacher and have grown into a technology leader focused on operational excellence, clear communication, and thoughtful project and budget management. I bring deep experience in educational technology across boarding schools, independent schools, and small college environments.I am also a practitioner of David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology and have led workshops helping educators and administrators apply GTD principles to their daily work.
