About Angelique Corthals
I am an associated professor and multidisciplinary researcher with a broad and extensive background in biomedical science and biological/forensic anthropology & pathology. My expertise is unique and encompasses a wide range of research areas, with a specific focus on the critical connection between neurodegeneration, envorinomental and endogenous cell stressors, and the metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids. I have recently joined @2NPharma as scientific co-founder with friend and colleague John Nieland with whom I have been working on neurometabolism. We are currently in the pre-clinical phase of an exciting novel drug development and looking to start Phase 1 and 2. I have also studied the origins of diseases and trauma, employing histopathology techniques on contemporary and ancient human and wildlife specimens alike. With my spouse, Dr. Liliana Davalos, I have received 2 NSF grants to study the immunology and histopathology of bats (chiropterans) in relation to the zoonotic spillovers of coronaviruses (sarbecoviruses). Leveraging my experience and proficiency in establishing and overseeing cutting-edge core facilities (biobanks), I am also highly sought after as a consultant for establishing new laboratories in both academic and industry spheres.Additionally, I am privileged to contribute to improving healthcare in underserved regions and communities by serving as a consultant in diagnostic technology and biologics delivery for Doctors Without Borders.I have an unwavering dedication to advocating for equitable access to healthcare for all individuals and am passionate about fostering public engagement in science and drug development, especially bringing in communities of patients together. I am also passionate about amplifying the representation of the LGBTQIA community in STEM fields. By championing these causes, I aim to create a more inclusive and diverse scientific landscape. Ultimately, I aim to propel scientific advancements, bridge critical knowledge gaps, and inspire the next generation of researchers.Together, we can achieve transformative progress in the pursuit of scientific excellence and a healthier world for everyone.
