About Amanda Sue Marcy
I’m an accounting professor, researcher, and CPA who enjoys turning buzzwords into useful tools for students and practitioners. At the University of Scranton, where I earned tenure in 2025, I teach auditing, financial reporting, advanced managerial accounting, and research methods across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. Additionally, I advise students in our University and Business Honors programs and mentor PhD candidates through their dissertations. I also have served as faculty advisor to Beta Alpha Psi and the Society of Accounting Students since 2015. In partnership with our Center for Career Development, I coordinate the Accounting Recruiter-in-Residence program, helping students connect with firms in meaningful, high-impact ways.My research interests center on auditing, workplace culture, professional burnout, ethical leadership, sustainability reporting, accounting education, recruiting pipeline and emerging accounting professionals, and use of AI in learning and professional judgment. Recent work appears in Issues in Accounting Education, Current Issues in Auditing, Accounting Research Journal, Strategic Finance, The CPA Journal, The Pennsylvania CPA Journal, and the PICPA\'s CPA Now blog.I am a licensed CPA in Pennsylvania and began my career with Baker Tilly, specializing in assurance and attestation for healthcare and senior living organizations. Today, I extend that professional experience through service on the Guthrie Health Clinic Audit Committee and the United Way of Susquehanna County advisory board.Recognition for my teaching, research, and service includes the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award (2025), Michael O. Mensah Service Award (2025), Woman of Vision & Courage Award (2023), two Douglas M. Boyle Research Awards (2020, 2023), and two IMA Curtis Verschoor Ethics Feature Article Awards (2020, 2023).
