About Askin Guler Yigitoglu

Askin Guler received her Ph.D. in the Nuclear Engineering, and she completed her M.S. and B.S. in Nuclear Energy Engineering. Her research interests lie in the following topics- Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA)- Deterministic Safety Assessment (DSA)- Aging and Reliability Modeling of Complex Systems- Markov Models- Uncertainty Quantification She previously held a M.S. research position at Hacettepe University, Turkey. She worked on Level-1 PRA of the emergency core cooling system (ECCS) of reactors via SAPHIRE. Askin also worked for GRNSPG, Italy as a research intern studying and analyzing large break loss of coolant accident (LBLOCA) for reactors using RELAP-5/MOD3.3.Askin’s current research focuses on the aging modeling of passive systems, structures and components (SSCs) of nuclear power plants at the Ohio State University. The primary goal of the project is to develop an overall methodology to include aging of passive SSCs in PRA and assess their risk impacts on risk measures (core damage frequency for Level 1, large early release frequency for Level 2). Askin is also currently working on a seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) project funded by U.S. DOE NEUP and her main tasks are the integration of SPRA into traditional internal event PRA, input uncertainty analysis and common cause failure treatment in failure rates.
