About Asis Thakur

Mr. Asis Thakur is currently associated with United Nations Volunteers India, and deployed as UNV-District Youth Officer at Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, an autonomous organisation under MoYAS, Govt. of India. In his current role he is working relentlessly towards formation, strengthening and promoting self-reliant village-based youth clubs and nurturing youth leadership in the rural areas of Nuapada district, Odisha. He has organized various leadership training programmes for youth and adolescents and led many successful campaigns involving thousands of youth volunteers. he is dynamically involved towards building awareness and understanding on sustainable development goals (SDGs) among youth and promoting youth voluntarism. Prior to joining UN Volunteers, he served as SPARC Associate of Hon’ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Sh. Jual Oram. He was instrumental in providing research and strategic support for constituency management, monitoring the developmental projects and programmes taken up within his constituency and suggest need based interventions pertaining to critical constituency specific issues. Also, he has to his credit working on pressing developmental issues with eminent educationalists from the world class institutes like University of Pittsburgh, University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University and University of Chicago etc. while working as research consultant at J-PAL South Asia on three research projects. He has successfully managed large scale digitized survey operations and trained professionals on digital data collection hardware and software and data management. He has been the part of core organizing committee of many state, national & international programmes and campaigns i.e 24th Ship for World Youth Leaders- the global Youth Leaders Development Program, National Youth Festival, National Integration Camp, National Tribal Youth Exchange Programme, Youth parliaments, National Colloquium, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Programme and Youth Conventions etc. Asis holds a master’s degree from Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) Sriperembudur, India. He brings the honor with him by representing India as youth delegate to “SAARC Youth Leadership Summit” and “Indian youth delegation to China”. He has been honored with the “National Youth Icon Award” for contributions towards youth development and promoting voluntarism.    Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. It is established with an objective of providing rural youth avenues to take part in the process of nation-building as well as providing opportunities for the development of their personality and skills. NYKS is the largest grassroots-level youth organization; one of its kind in the world. It channelizes the power of youth on the principles of voluntarism, self-help and community participation. While serving as UNV District Youth Officer at NYKS was responsible for managing the following roles and responsibilities- Provide input and strategic support to State and National PMU and UNV team for conceptualizing programmes to be taken up under Annual Action plan, budgeting and developing SOPs- Identify training needs, assist in designing training programme, develop training manuals and conduct various training programmes for promoting youth voluntarism, leadership building and institutional capacity development- Lead various district, State & National Level campaigns on various precising issues as per the mandate of govt. of India- Work in close coordination with the State PMU, attend the periodic meetings with the District Magistrate/Collector / SDs and facilitate the project implementation at block, district, and state level- Maintained cordial relationship and ensured frequent VIP engagements like Hon’ble Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Senior bureaucrats, and renowned social activists in programmes organized- Efficiently managed media and ensured constant coverage of programmes and activities in both print and electronic media- Mentored and provided hand holding support to many youth leaders who brought glory for the district as well the state in national and international forum.
