ABOUT NAYAN ASIKUNNABY

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Geography under the Joint Doctoral Program of San Diego State University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. I work as a Faculty of Disaster Management at Bangladesh University of Professionals, Bangladesh (on study leave). The profession of teaching requires a strong work ethic, passion, persistence, and goal-oriented work which sometimes becomes quite daunting. However, I believe I possess the above qualities and I have been consistently endeavoring to learn through research and teaching, trying to update my skills and knowledge of contemporary developments.Teaching has been a rewarding experience and I have gained the following interdisciplinary expertise in the last 10 years-1. Developed a strong aptitude on quantitative and qualitative research methods through theoretical and practical learning from Durham University as well as Jahangirnagar University along with field experiences over the last decade by working as a researcher on numerous projects with Government agencies and NGOs related to the physical environment and livelihood dynamics in the floodplain region of Bangladesh.2. Strong problem solving and analytical skills gained by hands-on experience of applying GIS, Remote Sensing, SPSS, and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools.3. Formidable interpersonal skills and knowledge sharing capacity developed through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international platforms.4. Enhanced leadership and organizational skills as a university teacher in addition to robust networking abilities with multidisciplinary teams.
