ABOUT ASIRUWA AKPATA

I am currently working as a business analyst at Shell Plc in Fleet Solutions within the Mobility Department. Here, I work on the Shell Fleet App, which focuses on streamlining fuel expenses for businesses and aggregators by creating bespoke solutions for SMEs. Being on the global team means working across 15 markets. I engage in marketing and business development, as well as business analysis using profit margin and volume (L) metrics for all markets. In 2023, I pursued an internship at PwC Nigeria. I worked in the ‘Capital Projects & Infrastructure’ (CPI) business unit within Advisory Services. In CPI, we partnered with the public and private sector across the entire capital project lifecycle. I worked on projects with a strong focus on renewable energy infrastructure to support Nigeria’s drive for energy security, energy sufficiency and diversification. At PwC, I also dabbled in operations advisory services, where I’ve reviewed the processes of business functions for a payment provider fintech and of an oil & gas company. Using PwC’s Business Maturity Framework, the aim was to find opportunities for improvement in their processes to preserve value and achieve overall operational efficiency. I graduated with a distinction from an MSc at the University of Edinburgh in ‘Energy, Society and Sustainability’ in 2022. This course concentrates on sustainable transitions to low carbon energy systems and the associated challenges that come with balancing energy with sustainability. I was also awarded a distinction for my dissertation entitled: ‘Kenyans are paying as they are going: using socio-cultural and economic nuances to address energy poverty through a service oriented approach’. I am interested in a career path geared towards strategy and implementation of (renewable) energy systems, notably solar energy systems. My interests include puzzles, music and drawing.
