I migrated to Canada as a permanent resident at the end of 2019. Since Public Relations and Communications jobs were hard to come by during the pandemic, I kept myself updated by registering to a well-known PR community group and regularly spoke to industry professionals about the PR landscape in Canada. In the meantime, I found this job as a Business Analyst at CIBC to keep myself financially nourished. I am someone who likes to give it a 100% into whatever I do, so simultaneously, I also took up an intense bootcamp course in Data Analytics from University of Toronto to help me with this new role. I never thought I would one day be looking at financial data and catching fraudsters. I sometimes feel like we (my team) are the Sherlock Holmes of the banking industry - fighting fraud and catching the bad guys. While I patiently wait to find my dream public relations job, so far this has been a fantastic ride with a lot of learnings and new transferable skills acquired.
