I work in two research areas: wireless and digital health. In wireless, it\'s theory, algorithms, protocols, and novel testbeds - WARP, RENEW, and now Houdini SDR. In digital health, it\'s measuring human behavior, quantifying behavior-biology pathways and novel interventions.I founded and lead Rice Digital Health Initiative (dhi.rice.edu). I helped co-develop and now co-direct Houston Methodist-Rice Digital Health Institute

   We are developing two complementary digital technologies for diagnosis and management of chronic lung diseases. Our driving focus is making both diagnosis and management as hassle-free as possible. Our diagnostic product, PulmoScan, is a zero patient effort lung function testing device, which is insurance reimbursable. It takes a minute to conduct the test, can be safely and accurately used for children as young as 3 years of age, and is more accurate than spirometry to diagnose COPD. Our management product, CapMedic, is a world’s first inhaler cap that measures both inhaler use technique and adherence. With a patented design, it can help patients take their inhaler correctly to improve drug delivery and reduce side effects.
