WORK HISTORY
Associate Professor Research @University Of Michigan College Of Pharmacy
Ann Arbor, MI, US
As a Principal Investigator and Director of the Natural Products Discovery Core (NPDC), I\'ve led diverse research projects funded by prestigious grants, fostering a robust natural product-based drug discovery pipeline. Our efficient cheminformatics platform, coupled with lab automation, has produced a unique natural product library, delivering curated compounds in two weeks and novel entities in 10-12 weeks. My lab\'s core objective is comprehensive biosynthetic metabolome characterization and predictive chemistry from microbial genomes. I lead a dedicated team in developing high-throughput workflows for natural product drug lead discovery, leveraging my extensive screening expertise.\"
EDUCATION
Goa University
Master of Science (M.Sc.), Marine Biotechnology
Nanyang Technological University Singapore
PHD, Marine Drug Discovery
ABOUT ASHU TRIPATHI
I lead multidisciplinary teams that convert the planet’s richest chemistries into next-generation therapeutics, agro-inputs, and cosmeceuticals. As Research Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and founding Director of the Natural Products Discovery Core (NPDC) at the University of Michigan, I spearhead a data-intensive discovery engine that couples genome mining, AI-driven metabolomics, and high-throughput biology to deliver patent-ready small molecules and enzymes at scale.Strategic Impact & Milestones - Scaled a world-class discovery hub. Conceived and launched NPDC, hiring and mentoring >25 scientists, post-docs, and trainees who drive end-to-end natural-product innovation. Mobilized major capital- Secured >$7 M in competitive grants (NIH, NSF, industry) to power NPDC’s platforms and partnerships. Drove translation & commercialization- Co-founded DynaGlu Therapeutics, a stealth TPD biotech tackling antibiotic-resistant infections. Licensed NPDC technology to 5Metis for global crop-protection applications. Generated intellectual property- Six issued U.S. patents spanning siderophores, halogenases, and biofilm inhibitors, plus multiple PCT filings. Advanced the science- Authored 50+ peer-reviewed publications, including 2024-25 papers in Nature Methods and Nature Communications on universal MS data languages and computational BGC mining.Global Footprint & Future Vision - NPDC collaborates with academic and corporate partners across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia—accelerating pipelines from microbial genome to market. We are now integrating large-language models (DeepChiral) and a 50 k-compound virtual microbial chemical entity library to shorten discovery timelines and expand chemical space.[If your protein target needs a privileged small molecule—or if your sustainability challenge demands a novel enzyme—let’s connect.]
