Ashok Balwani has general management, strategy and business development experience combined with a rich international experience covering knowledge based services, industrial projects and products and consumer product industries. He is a Director with Strategic Resources Group and advises companies on strategy, risk management, sustainability, international business, organisational development and human resources. Recent and current assignments include advising the Chairman & Managing Director of a large public sector bank on leadership development and succession planning, coaching key executives of a leading international professional services company and providing support to an international consulting company for risk management services and sustainability services for clients in India. He is also an independent director on the Board of Directors of Johnson Controls Hitachi Air Conditioning India Limited (formerly Hitachi Home & Life Solutions (India) Ltd) and a member of the Board’s Audit, Nominations & Remuneration and Risk Management committees. Formerly, he was also a member of the CSR committee.He was formerly the President of Man Industries (India) Limited, a USD 500 million company serving the international oil and gas market and was instrumental in negotiating and overseeing the company’s entry to the US. Previously, he handled several assignments with increasing responsibility in Det Norske Veritas (DNV – now DNV-GL). DNV is an independent foundation established in Norway in 1864 with the objective of safeguarding life, property and the environment and is engaged in ship classification, certification, technical services & consulting and is a leading player internationally in these sectors. He was responsible for achieving market leadership for DNV in the certification business and the ship classification business in India. He was the Chairman of DNV’s Certification Governing Boards in India and in Australia.
