ABOUT ASHLISHA S.
I’m a junior at Denison University majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Global Health on the pre-med track. I’m interested in how the body works, how proteins function, and how science can improve healthcare. My research in cancer and protein engineering has helped me grow both as a student and as a future healthcare provider.Outside the classroom, I care about community and mental health. I work with New American Youth Mental Health and ETSS, supporting immigrant and refugee youth, and I serve as a Hospice Ambassador, helping families during emotional and challenging moments. My own experience as a Bhutanese refugee guides the way I connect with people and inspires my commitment to serve.Right now, I’m working on two projects that mean a lot to me:• Autism in Immigrant and Refugee Families in Columbus, Ohio (Global Health Directed Study)• Religion and Memory in the Bhutanese Refugee Community in Central Ohio (Independent Research)On campus, I serve as President of the Nepalese Student Association, the Economic Equity & Affordable Housing Coordinator for DCSA, and an Interfaith Student Ambassador at the Spiritual Life Center. In these roles, I help build community, support cross-cultural conversations, and create spaces where students feel seen and connected. My long-term goal is to become a doctor, with a special interest in forensic pathology. I want to bring together science, service, and my love for people. My hope is to become a physician who truly understands their patients, their stories, cultures, languages, and the experiences that shape them.I’m always open to connecting with others interested in medicine, research, or community work.
