Commission Liaison @San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department
San Francisco, CA, US
As Commission Liaison, I serve as the primary contact for the Commissioners when interfacing with Department leadership, government entities, community organizations, elected officials and members of the public. I provide vital information to all parties, ensuring the Commissioners are well informed when making important public policy decisions.I develop and implement the Commission’s monthly meeting agendas and work closely with Department staff to provide essential information to the Commissioners and members of the public. During meetings, I serve as the parliamentarian and work to ensure meetings are run smoothly and fairly, with a focus on communicating clearly with members of the public.I am proud to have led a project to digitize more than 2,500 Commission records, freeing up valuable space and ensuring ease of access of historical files. With the space, I organized and executed a project to build a small Commission museum, documenting more than 140 years of Commission and Department history.

ABOUT ASHLEY SUMMERS
I have worked in government for more than fifteen years. I am currently the Commission Liaison for the Recreation and Parks Commission of San Francisco. As Commission Liaison, I serve as the primary contact for the Commissioners when contacted by Department leadership, elected officials and members of the public. I provide vital information to all parties, ensuring the Commissioners are well informed when making important public policy decisions. I formerly served as Operations Manager for the Mayor\'s Office of Neighborhood Services under the administration of Mayor London Breed. In addition to assisting my team with building a system and structure for this new office, I launched Mayor\'s Neighborhood Office Hours throughout San Francisco, bringing City Hall into the neighborhoods and ensuring community members have access to their representatives. For six years I worked as a Legislative Aide for Supervisor Katy Tang. During that time, I built relationships with so many people - from elected officials to city staff, residents, and small business owners. I most valued my ability to change local laws, and as a new mother I crafted the strongest Lactation in the Workplace policy in the nation. Senator Scott Wiener has also been proposed this same policy at the state level, modeled off of our local ordinance. I also created a program that broke up more than square feet of concrete in the Sunset District, and piloted a cigarette butt ash can program that reduced toxic cigarette butt litter by 60%. When not fielding constituent calls or trying to make lactation rooms around the city top notch, I love to spend time with my family. My husband and I are both SF-raised and spend most of our time breathing salt air and fog in the Sunset District, where we both grew up and are now raising our family. I love animals and have three cats and a dog, and my favorite activities are drawing, gardening, thrifting, organizing, watching movies, baking, and snuggling my kids.
