About Ashley Fisher
As a pediatric emergency nurse, I strive to serve the most vulnerable population with the utmost compassion, grace, and kindness. I have always been interested in working with children, ultimately though, there was one key experience that I had in my youth that truly sparked my interest in nursing and encouraged me to embark on this journey of becoming a nurse. When I was younger, I remember waking up from a surgery to fix a broken finger, and feeling scared beyond belief. The bright lights, white coats, and not to mention, my parents being stuck in the waiting room, created an overwhelming sense of anxiety and fear in me. One nurses\' actions changed everything for me though. She treated me like a person, even though I was only a small child. She took the time to explain things to me in ways that I could actually understand. She stayed with me until I felt more relaxed, and she made sure I was set up nicely in the PACU with a few popsicles and a nice dinosaur bandaid as I waited for my parents to return. Her actions made all the difference and inspired me to be that advocate in some other child\'s life later down the line. She taught me how important it is to treat everyone as an individual, regardless of age, and to take that extra moment to build a bond with your patient, because it\'ll make all the difference in the end. She didn\'t have to make a huge gesture or perform the surgery herself to be memorable, it was her genuine kindness and appreciation for her patient that made such an impact. Now, with this opportunity to work in a Level l pediatric emergency department, I am able to challenge myself and not only grow as a nurse, but as a person as a whole. I strive to utilize these past experiences and lessons learned on my journey in order to be the best nurse I can be. I aim to keep aspects like providing high-quality, patient-centered care, at the forefront of my practice, all while being a shoulder to cry on and another ear to listen to my patients. In this position, I hope to make a lasting impact on every patient that I interact with, and to do everything in my power to encourage and nurture the childhood experience.
