About Ashley Villanueva

As a recent graduate from UNC Chapel Hill with degrees in Neuroscience (B.S.) and Chemistry (B.A.), I’ve spent ample time in classrooms, labs, and at work investigating and communicating complex scientific concepts. I’m thrilled to further explore my long-held enthusiasm for the intersections between neuroscience and chemistry in a research or industry setting. During my college career, I prioritized building my STEM education through a lens of global awareness. For two enriching summers, I studied and interned abroad while pursuing a Spanish minor for the Medical Professions. In Rome, Italy, I volunteered at a CRO, where I aided in the research and development of medicinal and cosmetic products while overcoming cultural and language barriers. Beyond my international experiences, I was extensively involved on campus. As an Ethics Scholar through UNC’s Parr Center, I collaborated with fellow students and the Chapel Hill community to promote ethical discourse and critical thinking. Additionally, I served as a mentor for women in STEM, supporting their personal and professional growth. My passion for scientific communication led me to contribute as a writer for the Carolina Scientific magazine, where I shared captivating stories about research advancements at UNC. As I grow in understanding of chemical interactions and the human brain, I hope to foster a global perspective that acknowledges universal languages: unceasing reverence for one another and curiosity regarding the world we share.
