ABOUT MEALS ON WHEELS OF WAKE COUNTYMcCumber will join the 50-year legacy of Meals on Wheels of Wake County, an organization that serveslunchtime meals to over 1,400 homebound older adults and persons with disabilities across Wake County. Their outreach consists of meal delivery to homebound seniors and people with disabilities, and communal dining for seniors at their 11 Friendship Cafe locations. They have served more than 11 million meals since their inception in 1974.Known for serving more than a meal, Meals on Wheels provides a friendly visit and safety check for the homebound individuals they deliver to. This allows homebound seniors to continue living independent, well-nourished lives in their own homes and communities- where they want to be. The need for Meals on Wheels services continues to grow; the Raleigh metropolitan area ranks 2nd highest in the country for senior food insecurity, and the population of adults aged 65 and over is expected to double in Wake County by 2041

Ashley C. McCumber is currently Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Wake County. Wake MOW is the largest Meals on Wheels program in North Carolina and also 11 Friendship Cafes across Wake County, NC. Located in Raleigh, NC, Wake MOW has served the community for 50 years.Ashley C. McCumber served President and CEO of Food Banks of Central and Eastern North Carolina (The Food Bank) from 2022 to 2024. The Food Bank serves 34 counties in NC and has branches in Raleigh, Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Sandhills, and Wilmington. Prior to joining The Food Bank, Mr. McCumber was CEO of Meals on Wheels of San Francisco for 15 years, the largest provider of nutrition and supportive services to homebound seniors and adults w/disabilities in San Francisco. While there, he helped grow the organization from $4.5 million operation to more than $24 million. In 2020, MOWSF opened a state of the art $42 million facility (The Sangiacomo Flynn Building) following a successful capital campaign and subsequently, opened a new headquarters (The Rosemary and Harry Wong HQ) adjacent to this new facility.In addition, he has served Chair of the Board for the CalNonprofits which seeks to increased the impact and voice of the nonprofit sector in California and served Board of Directors of the Meals On Wheels Association of America (also Chair) and Co-founded MOW California in 2014).Mr. McCumber is considered a thought leader in hunger and food security issues and has also served as Co-Chair of the LGBT Aging Policy Task Force for the City/County of San Francisco.Prior to joining MOWSF, Mr. McCumber was the President/Chief Executive Officer of United South End Settlements (USES) in Boston, Massachusetts, joining that Agency in 2002. Along with 28 years of non-profit and community leadership experience, Mr. McCumber has extensive expertise in fundraising, community relations, non-profit management, and arts and event administration. Some of the executive and managerial positions formerly held by Mr. McCumber include: his service as Director of Marketing and Communications for The Mexican Heritage Corporation/Plaza in San Jose, CA; Sr. Director of Institutional Advancement; Unitarian Universalists Service Committee; Dir. of Development, Marketing and Communications, Codman Square Health Center, Dorchester, MA; Associate Director of Development and Alumni Relations at Bridgewater State University; and Director of Tourism and Cultural Dev. for the City of New Bedford, MA.
