About Ashley Combs
I am someone who takes pride in her work, no matter the field. About two years after I graduated Molloy College with my BA in English, I was still looking for career direction. At the time I read an assortment of workplace memoirs and biographies of people in different industries. After reading several flight attendant memoirs, I recalled the many days I spent in childhood looking at the sky. Becoming a flight attendant had been a childhood dream. The idea of world travel, having the responsibility of ensuring flight safety, and working for a great purpose captivated me. It was then I decided to pursue my dream of becoming flight crew. In 2016 I was hired by Norwegian Air Shuttle. I underwent extensive inflight training to gain the skills necessary to protect the passengers safety in my cabin. I excelled as a flight attendant. Everyday, I made sure all my 350 passengers received warm, welcoming, inflight service. Some days I acted as first aider during medical emergencies, while flying over the Atlantic ocean. These were the times that closed loop communication was vital. During these situations I kept a level head and communicated effectively with my Captain. I took my last flight 3/15/2020, when Covid-19 was at its climax and I was furloughed. Ultimately, the long haul sector of Norwegian Air Shuttle bankrupted. It was then I decided to further my medical training and go beyond basic first aid. I enrolled in the Molloy Medical Assistant Certification program. After successfully completing all my required coursework I applied to All Island Dermatology to pursue my career in the medical field. In 2021 I began working as a Certified Clinical Medical Assitant at AID. Everyday I built my medical terminology vocabulary and learned new medical office procedures. I successfully worked with multiple providers in my practice. Today I proudly work alongside the owner of my practice. I get to assist him with skin biopsies, wound care, and reviewing aftercare instrunctions with our patients. I feel such immense pride telling our patients that I will call them with every result. Then when I do get to call a patient, hearing them thanking me for the work I do… it reminds me that I am exactly where I need to be. My career has taken many turns over the years, but I am confident that I will continue to flourish in Dermatology.
